Testing the Strength and Stretch of Honeycomb Paper Packaging

Test honeycomb paper quality with these practical strength and expansion checks.

Practical tests

Testing methods0 / 4 checked

Expansion test: pull a 1m section and measure expanded width. Should match specification.
Tear test: pull the expanded paper firmly. Should resist tearing under normal handling force.
Cushioning test: wrap a fragile item and drop from 60cm. Check for damage.
Weight test: weigh a sample section and calculate GSM. Should match specification.

Quick answer

Test expansion rate, tear resistance, drop-test cushioning, and paper weight on samples before bulk ordering. Quality honeycomb paper expands to the specified width, resists tearing during normal wrapping, protects a fragile item in a 60cm drop test, and matches the stated GSM. If any test fails, the specification is insufficient for your needs or the quality is below standard.

Interpreting results

May need a different specification.

Upgrade to heavier paper.

Double-wrap or increase GSM.

When to test

Every new supplier, every new specification, and spot-check ongoing deliveries. Test older stock if stored for 6+ months, as moisture absorption can affect paper strength.
