How Tape Width and Thickness Affect Application and Durability

Width and thickness: how these tape specifications affect your packaging performance.

3 min readUpdated April 2025

Width options

48mm: the standard width. Covers most box seams with adequate overlap.
75mm: wider coverage for larger boxes, heavier items, and maximum brand visibility.
25mm: narrow option for small boxes or accent taping.

Quick answer

48mm is standard for most parcels. 75mm for large boxes or maximum brand visibility. Wider tape provides more surface for your branding and covers seams more securely. For thickness, 28 micron is standard. 35 micron provides extra strength for heavy items. Thinner (25 micron) works for light parcels. Match width and thickness to your typical box size and contents weight.

Thickness explained

Adequate for boxes under 5kg.

The default choice for e-commerce and general shipping.
